We had a stunning day on the property on Sunday. I wish I could say the same for Saturday. The boys commenced putting the roof iron on but the wind had other ideas, mainly to make life up there on the roof as difficult as possible. This is the problem when building to a tight schedule, you can't always depend on the weather. However the roof is half there.
I've made three garden beds. One is a potato bed. I'm experimenting with different kinds of sheet mulch and no dig. I've done a sheet mulch bed with Paper, soil, straw, sawdust and Blood and Bone. Another bed with paper and straw for potato's (lacking soil but a friends suggestion so I'll give it a go). I have another bed where I've forked the soil/ grass, laid the potato's straight on top and them put straw. Both those beds have blood and bone as well. I have a rough idea of the garden design, but sort of making it up as I go with the positioning in mind.
On Sunday Pat's family came to visit for Fathers Day. Pat's dad Rob got on the tractor and had a blast. There's lots of Tea Tree that has popped up in the cleared areas of the property which have to go as it's a fire hazard. The kids had a ride on the tractor and climbed trees all afternoon. We went down to the creek to clear some dead wood. Pat slammed the tractor door on my middle finger, right hand. It's cut pretty badly and I'm not a happy girl today. First of the many injuries to come I'm sure of it.
The great thing about yesterday was that everyone had such a great day! The energy and excitement people have about the place is very inspiring. It's nice to have people come and enjoy the space.
I have lots of pics of progress coming up soon for your viewing.
