Critters in the rain

Hi all,
What a couple of hectic weeks we have had. Deciding not to move this year was the best decision. Patrick and I were about to kill each other due to the stress. We were starting to skimp on things related to the building that we really didn't need to, eg. 'lets not put a door there, we haven't got time...' We were starting to make all the mistakes we vowed we wouldn't. Plus, we didn't want to get to India stressed, could you imagine it? I imagine that it's not the kind of country you just ease into on the first day or even week for that matter. So it's like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.
We actually had time to do other stuff on the weekend which was novel. Although it was raining, we did get down to the property on Sunday and what an experience. The place was teaming with life. Creatures big and small were out enjoying the long awaited rain. I know it doesn't seem like that long ago we had rain, but the land was actually quite dry. I found a lizard curled up in the wood pile. He was a beautiful strong creature who did a good job of attempting to wriggle his way out of my grip. I'm waiting to see my first snake of the season but I've seen lots of lizards. India has seen two black snakes at work over the past two weeks so they are out there already.
After stacking some wood I took the dogs for a walk along the creek. At the edge of our property you can hear water gushing like a waterfall. I decided to go and investigate and on the other side of our fence found a wide creek with swift running water. I was so excited with my find, another swimming hole for summer (although it's probably on the neighbouring property and we would be trespassing no doubt)!
When I arrived home that night I took off my socks only to discover three leeches on my socks looking plump and tuckered out. I collected them into a plastic container and excitedly went to show Pat who exclaimed "Wow, but what about the ones on your legs?"  There were another three on my legs! I almost fainted at the sight of them. What and end to a wet weekend. Keep you posted x :)
